Cannot see peoples skins or signs in tekkit

When I look at a person it is an awkward visual bug. It shows the main sprite sheet for textures wrapped around where their heads would be, Their right arm is what their skin should be, and their left arm is 4 purple squares(also from the sprite sheets). Also the signs in game are invisible. I can only see the text. Does anyone know whats causing this and how to fix it?

Edit- I forgot to mention I am running on Linux Ubuntu 12.10 if that helps any

nope all fresh install... but i figured out what it was. my modpack in bin was corrupt/incomplete so I replaced it with the modpack i had im my windows partition on my HDD
