Launcher Times Out

Java Version: Version 7 Update 17

Antivirus Program: AVG Anti-Virus 2013 FREE

Description of Problem:

Whenever I attempt to do anything online with the launcher (I.E add a mod pack or log in) I get an error. I look in the console and find at the top that the action has timed out. I've tried restarting my computer and reinstalling the launcher but the problem persists.
