Small question concerning tekkit and optifine

Hello! I see that the current tekkit builds have no no-optifine-tekkit build, or is not finished for using. Would tekkit still be able to function properly if I attempted to remove optifine myself? It may be my graphics card, my RAM, or maybe my computer hates me , but optifine makes my game run slower [which makes no sense to me >:c]. I would try first, but if it didn't work I would not know if it was due to me screwing up, or tekkit not being able to function without it [forgive me I am coding-illiterate]. You guys probably know much more than I do. Anyone have any idea? :D
