animals/creatures/mobs keep despawning

Hi all,

I've been playing the latest version of MC for a while then decided to try TekkitLite. For some reason though whenever I start a new game all friendly mobs keep despawning. They appear then instantly disappear. Its most upsetting. Creepers etc are fine and plentiful.

Does anyone know how to fix this? I hear it might be something to do with mo' creatures. Is this included in Tekkitlite latest version? Also, when I press ESC in game I can't see "global mod settings" - is this a problem? Other than Tekkitlite I have installed no other mods.
