Need Help Adding Other Mods To Tekkit Lite? (MAC)

I've been trying to add other mods (for example, a recipe book mod) to Tekkit Lite, but I can't seem to figure it out. I've tried unzipping the modpack.jar file to make it a folder and doing it that way, but that seems to get rid of all the mods that are there. A bit of help? Thanks in advance.
