Trouble getting Filler to always work. Your setup?

I used the Filler from BC in SSP a lot and I use it just as much in SMP but I find that on the SMP it usually takes me several tries to get it to activate. I wanted to know if anyone else has found they need to set it down then pick it up then try again or make sure the engines are on before placing in the pattern or anything else weird like that.

I apparently have terrible grammar today too so if this sounds weird I can reexplain.
