Java Version: Java 6 1.6.0_65 then Java 7 Update 45

Description of Problem:
When I run Vanilla everything is OK.
When I try to launch any other mod via Technic Launcher it passes the 'FML is setting up...' step OK and then the mod's window loads up with the mojang logo corrupted about half way down where one row of pixels is then repeated to the bottom of the window. Screenshot 1:
Then the minecraft home screen loads with the same corruption, half-way down a row of pixels is repeated down to the bottom of the window. Screenshot 2:
Then the window disappears and a dialog pops up to say '<Any mod name here> quit unexpectedly. Click Reopen to...'. Screenshot 3:
Later I installed Java 7 from Oracle and the only apparent change was the final error message which now says '<Any mod name here> quit unexpectedly while using the libjvm.dylib plug-in. Click Reopen to...'. Screenshot 4:

I've read the Common Problems sticky and also tried the workaround posted in this thread: http://forums.technicpack.net/threads/mac-os-x-nothing-starts-up-temporary-launcher-fix.49661/.
