Minecraft Expansion Ultimate launch failure

Launcher Version: Build 377 (as of 12-18)

Operating System: Mac OSX 10.8.5

Java Version: Java 7 Update 40

Description of Problem:

For a short time (I think just a few weeks) after initially downloading the modpack and starting a world, the pack started up completely normally (albeit very slowly). Then, after the aforementioned time period, it simply stopped working. Upon loading, the game window appears, FML does its thing, the game screen flashes black -- and then it would crash. The error screen doesn't show up, but I know it's there because my cursor changes to the text select cursor as I roll over the window.
