cannot find or connect to LAN worlds

Launcher Version: newest stable

Operating System: Mac OS 10.9 Maverick

Java Version: 7

Antivirus Program: none

Description of Problem:

the launcher will not connect / find any LAN worlds, have tried several different 1.6.4 mod packs (Treeit, RageTech, Doctor Creeper, ext). Server worlds show but no LAN. Went back to vanilla Minecraft and LAN worlds show up and connect without difficulty... Just a Technic Launcher issue. Please help
