Fusion reactor won't start

I have built the reactor from this demo video:

I wired it up pretty much the same way, but when I insert the deuterium nothing happens.

The cable on the right side of the energy cube (output) goes directly to the underside of the reactor block. The cable on the left side hooks up to the turbines.

I am doing this with ScarecrowKrone's moonquest modpack. What am I doing wrong? I would appreciate any help with this.
