Installing other mods?

I was just curious is it possible to install other mods on top of the mod packs in the launcher, as I would very much like to install TMI.

Don't be stupid: NEI (better than TMI) is already in the pack.

To answer your question, if you find an actual mod you really do want to install, you do this: 1) Install the mod; 2) Wait for the crash; 3) See which IDs conflict; 4) Reassign the IDs; 5) Play.

Step 3) Whinge incessantly.

What mods were you thinking of adding? There's really not a lot of room for cool new stuff. I reckon there's about 20 block ID's and 40 item sprites from a rough count just now. And anyway, there may well be new stuff being added to the new tekkit/technic that'll further complicate things.

More and more mods are using Forge for sprites, so that's less of an issue now.

Though I heard that was unstable due to the extra sprite capacity supposedly added in 1.2.x, which was unreliable anyhow.

That sucks if true, but they'll iron out any issues eventually. Stability is 100% in 1.1.

i have also had this problem im trying to install mine little pony, reis minimap and optifine but when i install them it says the instal is corupt and redownloads vanilla

Whut. You already have two of them, and Mine Little Pony only has one class file and one config file. Just stick to having stuff handed to you from now on. And be grateful.
