Forgive me if the solution is the 485th one down in the search results for the screamingly obvious, but my launcher has been fairly hit and miss when logging in ever since I got a new machine. 'Unable to authenticate with minecraft.net' I get, but not every time.

If you mean this morning, the Minecraft.net servers have been vomiting on themselves and access has been spotty. If you mean universally all the time, no idea.
