Tekkit Server Port Issues

So I've created a tekkit server today, and I tried it out. I decided to use port 25565, the default port, and I made sure neither my router or my computer are blocking the port. I'm not the most advanced in networking, but I really thought I made sure nothing was using port 25565. I've also attempted other ports, and nothing. Can anybody give me a few pointers in the right direction? I've spent a good 3-4 hours on the internet reading about this and everybody's issues seem to be just a lack of port forwarding.
