We had the same problem, along with the advanced extractor. Our (shitty) solution was to just have someone who could still go near them to remove both of them, then we replaced them with a regular macerator and extractor with a transformer upgrade and like 9 overclockers. This probably isn't the kind of help you're looking for, but we couldn't find out how to actually fix the problem either.
