but when i try to access my friends server it says i need to be on 1.5

I have downloaded then newest launcher from the website, i have updated it and so on and when i try to access a server that iv been on for a few months it says my client is out od date, i need to be using minecraft 1.5 but the client comes with 1.4.7 how do i upadate it? Thank you.
