It's been posted (more than several times) you need to downgrade to java 1.6 to run it on a mac.

Toggle on the Console from the launcher settings button before you try and launch a mod pack , temporary fix , but it works for me.

well , by accident...I've found a solution.... It's a little wierd and I can't see how it would make any difference... BUT.... if I toggle on 'show console' every time before I try and launch a mod pack, it all works....
