  1. yes it is and i was wondering if there is a way for me to add it to SMP

SMP and SSP use completely different code. There is no way short of getting the source code of the mod and rewriting it yourself.

In 1.3 SSP and SMP will use the SMP code, making it easier to make SMP mods. However this means all SSP mods will probably need to be rewritten in the process, so it will be a long process.

  2. Thanks for all the suggestions guys! I've decided to wait a couple of days before I buy the server, because I'm currently in Hospital at the moment, and I've only just realized that the Hospital's wifi must block a port or something because I can't connect to Minecraft servers. :( So no point of me buying it now... It's sad because I wanted the server so I had something to do while I was in here XD. Oh well.

  3. When I got a VPS I used creeperhost, which did nothing but impress me. Excellent service and quick responses combined with a stable server for a good price. If you're looking for a VPS I'd definitely go with them, however if you want a true dedicated server that might be another question entirely.

Thanks for the suggestion. They seem to be good, tho they charge extra for support, and no Australian hosting sucks :(

  4. Try beastnode. They seem to hae gotten pretty good marks from the community at large here.

Yeah, I've looked at BeastNode, currently i'm weighing up the differences between them, Treepuncher and Hypernia. BeastNode does look great, but only US hosting like most others. Hypernia has hosting in the city i'm in, but are quite expensive :(

I'm curious as to where you would find a server with this much RAM.

I found one, https://secure.get-sourced.net/cart.php?gid=16 which seems to offer a great deal. My problem is it's US hosting, when I'd prefer Australian. Tho US hosted servers aren't too bad.

  5. I am using Treepuncher to host my Tekkit server. I asked TP about the RAM allocation and was told they allocate 70MB per user slot. I asked about this being a rather small memory allocation based on the common statement that Tekkit needs 1 GB or better and was told they have no complaints from the users. To be honest, my 5 slot server does run reasonably well, service and support has been acceptable and I did re-up my subscription.

Thanks, did you have any problems with crashing?

Dont go with TreePuncher. I did for their Australian servers. Their server are incorrectly configured and when I had my server on there it was crashing CONSTANTLY every 2 or so hours involving me to get on and manually restart it which would also not save the server as their online control panel is BAD and the stop/restart commands have no safe shut down and just kill the process which means everyone loses their items and it rollsback to the last time it saved which can be a long time

If you have a choice, dont go with TreePuncher, the also charged me and refused to refund me because for half the month I had already paid for when i wated to cancel because their servers just constantly crash.

Hmm, that doesn't sound good. I see that they claim to provide 48 hour trials, but whenever I try to apply for one they just say it's "sold out".

  6. When I run the Tekkit Launcher, I can click Options, and there's a pulldown menu called Select Modpack Build. Apparently I need to keep it on 2.1.0|1.1|Rec. Build, because if I try to use any of the newer builds, I can't communicate with any of the tekkit servers listed on this forum. I get the error:

    Internal exception: java.net.SocketException: Connection reset

I'm guessing this means if you run a 2.1.0 server, you need a 2.1.0 client. Simple enough. What I don't get is, why is everyone running 2.1.0? We all know 2.1.0 is buggy as hell. Literally every public server I've been on either crashes every ten minutes or else has EE completely disabled. (And I mean COMPLETELY disabled, often times even if their Technic forums thread suggests otherwise. I would have thought we could at least get away with keeping Transmutation Tablets around, but nope! Apparently converting all my useless gravel into copper is a game-breaker somehow.)

Should I be encouraging my favorite EE-friendly servers to switch to 3.0.0? Is 3.0.0 REALLY more unstable than 2.1.0? Because 2.1.0 seems pretty bad, at this point.

    TL;DR: See subject.

(Sorry if this is explained elsewhere. I couldn't find it.)

The server files haven't been released yet. Only the client files are available.

  7. A Tekkit server normally consume 1100-1500 gb ram, but reccomendet is 2gb ram.

Important is that the server is launched with specific parameters, for the rest it does not need a "special" tekkit hosting.

    Advice? Install the following fixes/Patches:

If you play only with you friends use whitelist, because there are alot of griefer around tekkit.

Hmm, okay, thanks for the advice! I'll see what hosts I can find that offer that kind of memory.

  8. So, I know this is probably going to be a very vague question, but I'm looking at buying a dedicated Minecraft server for me and a few University friends. Probably going to be no more then 5-10 people online at any one time.

Basically I had a few questions about buying a server, I did a search but couldn't find any of these answers here.

    1. How much RAM should I be looking for in my server? Most hosts seem to suggest about 512MB for 10 people, but I'm not sure if Tekkit requires more then the reccomended.

    2. Do I need to find a server host that specifically hosts Tekkit installs? I found one, Treepuncher, who charges extra for the Tekkit install, and doesn't show how much RAM they are giving me, but they have a host in Australia which I need. Or does any host that allow FTP mean I can install Tekkit myself?

    3. Is there anything else I should know before committing to buying a server? I'm sure the good Technic community has advice they would love to share :D

  9. So, right now, I booted up the Technic Launcher to play, and it told me that an update was available. I clicked on the 1.2.3 Dev Latest build (I had been using for my SSP world), and it started re-downloading the files.

So did something get added or changed? Or is it me?

The launcher itself was updated, I don't think any of the mods were changed. You can read about it on the front page.
