  1. Title: Upgrade from 3.04 to 3.1.2 - Invisible blocks that crash the server Version: 3.1.2 OS: Debian Java Version: 7 Description of Problem: Several blocks in our world seem to be invisible and crash clients when interacted with. Some of them are related to EE and whatnot. It doesn't seem like missing IDs because types of blocks that are missing will still appear in other places and they can be spawned. Specific examples that we've identified are - Alchemical Chests - Energy Collectors Items in someone's personal safe also crash the server. So, it sounds like it could be EE, but some of the invisible blocks do not make sense. Our server is: www.tsukinokage.net From spawnpoint, checking out some of the buildings to the north, you should be able to locate some of these corrupted blocks inside the houses. Otherwise, I haven't seen any other problems. I've already redone the setup twice. Copied the world folders into a fresh install and the problem still continues. Error Messages: Error Log:
  2. I found the mod Cheap Shot was referring to and this looks absolutely what I need. The question is, how I do get this in Tekkit? http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1046300-11-ingame-user-changer-v1/ It says drop this in your Minecraft jar, but I'm sure not how to locate this with the Techniclauncher I've located my .techniclauncher folder, so I guess if it's in here, I just need to know the file location relative to that folder. Edit: Nevermind, I figured it out. The location of the .jar you need to modify is located in .techniclauncher/tekkit/bin/minecraft.jar Thanks a lot, Cheap Shot. Really appreciate the help.
  3. I'll give it a shot, but I have a feeling it's just a cosmetic change rather than the idea of a different user on the server. Actually now that it's day time and I've had coffee, I'm curious if it would be possible for the launcher itself to have the ability to change usernames. If you were to do it in a way where it still required a real Minecraft username and password and it simply just uses a different username when the game loads... ...that would completely solve my issue and still satisfy the requirements for a legal way to update the clients. Given it's niche uses though, I don't imagine it would be a priority at all, but it probably would make a lot of people out there pretty happy, including myself. But, I did take a look at the license agreement and I didn't see any mention of username in general. Maybe I'm taking liberties with the wording or the intentions behind the document, but I don't see any reason why it would be wrong in Mojang's eyes to own a license of the game and use a different username on a no-auth server (beyond griefers abusing it to get around username bans). I say I may be taking liberties with the intention of the document, because the document itself is pretty vague. Notch doesn't seem to be the kind of guy who would mind this sort of thing, but I'm not going to put words in his mouth. As far as I can tell, he doesn't seem to have ever addressed the issue unless it involved piracy.
  4. I ran a couple Google searches and I couldn't find a vague reference honestly. Is it a Bukkit plugin? Do you remember what it was called?
  5. If it helps our context, it's a role play server.
  6. Something this topic doesn't address is the subset of people who do own legal copies of Minecraft but prefer the freedom of multiple (or just different) usernames. The option of playing multiple roles or profiles is now limited to the amount of separate copies of Minecraft one has. Mojang/Minecraft.net has addressed the issue before and their stance has changed multiple times from - In the future we will allow username changes - We will not allow username changes - The issue completely disappearing from their website altogether It shouldn't be a difficult thing for the folks at Mojang to add this feature in. There are a lot of people out there who would be served well by this. Regardless, even if such a feature would be implemented, this means that every time someone were to play as a different role on a server, they would have to get a username change from the website. Also, on top of this, usernames that are already taken on Minecraft.net, couldn't be used. Given how you use Minecraft and how you play Minecraft, this complaint can range from a minor inconvenience to game ruining. If I were to upgrade our server now, most of us would be restricted to only one of the characters we play, and even if we had enough accounts to cover this (and rename the .dat files to the appropriate correct usernames), we will still have a huge mess of issues regarding personal chests and anything else that uses username-based permissions. Yes, I do understand none of this was done for the sake of anti-piracy and done more for the sake of ease of development. But, the idea that only pirates or people who are doing something illegal are being held back by this new system is not true in our case and I'm not quite sure what to do about this. In our case, we are being thrown in with the same group of people who illegally obtained Minecraft on the basis we want control over our usernames. It would be nice if Minecraft supported a nickname function.
