After watching another 10 videos I still can't fix it?

Hi there, I have been trying to set up a tekkit server using hamachi but my friend gets a "Connection Timed Out Error" when he tries to join. I have set it up as described in each tutorial and my mate is connected to my Hamachi network. I have also changed the server properties so the server ip=(the ip on my hamachi network). He is also connecting to this ip when he tries to connect to my server but to no success. If anyone can tell me what I am doing wrong (I am sure it is just a stupid error) it would be most appreciated. Cheers, Joe.

sorry for being a complete noob but what does port forwarding do

Hello everyone, I've been looking at a lot of tutorials and have successfully managed to set up a server which functions when I join via "localhost" However none of these tutorials tell me how my friend can join me. If someone can explain to me in a simple way or point me in the direction of a tutorial which shows this it would be of great help! Cheer.
