Can't add client side mods to tekkit

any input at all would be appreciated, i just want to know whether this happens a lot or if it's just me -
When i try to put mods like Better animations and Sonic Ether's Shaders into the mods folder nothing changes in game. Am i doing this wrong? sorry if this topic has been posted before
