Download a texture pack like John Smith, and edit based off those, it will save you a lot of time.

That means you have run out of memory. In the launcher, hit options then change "Memory to Allocate" to a higher number than it is there, and keep trying. If it keeps crashing, your game might have something wrong with it, or you need a better computer. (specifically RAM.)
