  1. Mornin' lads and lasses, I'm somewhat new at this, just recently started to be honest, I've read a truckload of threads on this forums and I have some questions, if you don't mind me asking.

First and foremost, I see that CraftBukkit++ has been "replaced" by Spigot, given that I want to run the latest version of tekkit, I assume that I need the latest version of Spigot, yes?

For some lag reduction plugins, I've been told that Lagg Clear does a wonderful job. Anybody can confirm that? I'd rather not install it based on rumors.

And lastly, how stables IS the latest version of Tekkit? I see that a lot of people have been complaining about errors and what-not. And given that I shouldn't run the latest tekkit version, what version of CB++ or Spigot should I use to the "not latest" version of tekkit?

    Thanks in advance!

  2. Hello ladies and gents. I own a small-ish MC and a very small Tekkit server and I want to make the experience of my users more enjoyable. I've been planing to add a Multiverse for some time now and I'd like to get more opinions on...well, everything. Thus I've come up with a survey to broaden my views.

    For Tekkit - http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/KJMZYGG

    For Minecraft - http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/KCTTCGS

It's not very long, only 8 questions, if you could take the time to answer it, I'd be most grateful.

I will post the results as soon as I get a decent number of people to answer.

    Thank you.

  3. I'm looking for a server that can hold ~50 people. The point is I don't want to overkill it on the hardware since that would involve more money but I don't want the opposite either. After some searching I've stumbled across some pretty nice offers(Xeon E3-1230, 16 GB DDR3, 120 GB HDD - SSD, 100Mbps Unmetered connection, running on - personal preferance - Ubuntu). This could clearly hold 50+ players at any given time. And the price is fairly decent. However, I want to get a clear view of what I need, not what I want(hell, I'd want a NASA computer if I could get one).

So, let's point out a few facts about Tekkit: Only 1 core of the CPU will be used so there's no point in getting a multiple core CPU with low processing power per core. Tekkit needs as much power per core as it can get. In this case a Core i5 3500, Core i7 3700 or Xeon E3v2 is the best bet when it comes to price/power ratio.

The RAM is equally important. After some trial and error, it seems that every player will need about 200-ish MB RAM(this is pure empirical evidence on my part since there are other factors that influence this, such as plugins, buildings on the map, etc). Assuming that 200 MB is enough, we need 10 GB for 50 players. Let's say 12 so we're nice and comfy. With 16 GB, leaving aside at least 2 GB for the OS, it should do fine.

The HDD. The I/O (Input/output) is also very important. There's no real point in having a good CPU if the HDD bottlenecks. This is where a SSD steps in. The only "problem" is that it will break pretty soon.

There are a lot of software tweks that can be done to minimize lag and strain on the CPU/RAM that I'm not aware of.

    So, my questions are:

    - What would be your personal opinion on the hardware needed to run a 50+ Tekkit server(be detailed, if possible)?

    - What are some software tweaks that I should be aware of?

  4. Your In Game Name: JunkyPic

    Your Age: 24

How often are you planning on playing: As often as I can. Work around this time of the year is crazy(and that's putting it mildly).

For experienced players, the structure you are most proud of building: A no EE HV Solar Array Factory.

For new players, what are you hoping to achieve on Verve: Nothing in particular. Just enjoy myself.

For everyone, why do you think Verve is the server for you: I don't, but you sell yourself well.

  5. Caused by: java.lang.NullPointerException

java's trying to "get" an object that is not defined yet. The causes of this could be...well, anything.

    I'd recommend reinstalling LWC.

Btw, do you have the Tekkit items listed in LWC so they can be used?

Also, are you using any permission based plugin?

  6. Hello,

Recently I started a Tekkit server, all went well until the dreaded:"[WARNING]: Can't keep up! Did the system time change, or is the server overloaded?' error poped up out of nowhere.

Before anything else, let me give you a quick glance at the server's hardware:

Processor - Intel Xeon E3-1230 4 Cores (8 HT Cores)

    RAM - 16 GB DDR3

    HDD - 120 GB SSD

Internetz speed - 100Mbps Unmetered connection.

Running on Ubuntu Server 12.xx - can't remember at the moment.

    List of plugins currently installed:

    AlchemistFix

    AutoMessage

    BorderGuard

    CoreProtect

    Dynmap

    Essentials

    ItemStacker

    LagMeter

    LWC

    PermissionsBukkit

    RecipeRepro

    SimpleAFKKick

    WorldEdit

    WorldGuard

The current world is limited at 3.000 block distance from the spawn point and is about 100 305 MB large.

    The player limit is 25.

The RAM allocations is as follows: java -Xmx10G -Xms4G -jar Tekkit.jar nogui

I've found a thread related to this issue on the forums, http://forums.bukkit.org/threads/how-to-improve-mincraft-server-performance.662/.

Overall I'm a little skeptical if this will work.

    I'm asking 2 things only:

    1. What are the general causes of this error and how will it affect server performance?

    2. Is there any way to solve this problem?

P.S. I forgot to mention I'm using some "costume" mods to solve some exploits of tekkit: http://forums.technicpack.net/threads/known-fixes.22447/

  7. I'm trying to setup an Essentials shop thingy, I've managed to actually setup the shop itself and it works, but I've come across a "small" problem.

The sings, although, they can't be destroyed, once a user does hit them enough to "destroy" them they'll pop back in place BUT they won't have anything written on them. Since that's how Essentials shop is used, via writting on signs, everytime one sign gets "destroyed" it no longer works as a shop sign.

Anybody know a way to fix this?

  8. I'm talking about blazerod macerators, bonemeal macerators, etc...

I'd like to make a list of all of them and "fix" them, and of course, post results after that.

The blazerod macertor can be fixed, without removing blazerod or preventing macerators. So that's one down, but I don't know all the exploits since I don't really use them.

So, who could help me out here?

  9. Starting as of about 2 hours ago, I keep getting this error:"2012-08-29 19:18:11 [WARNING] Can't keep up! Did the system time change, or is the server overloaded?".

I've poked around and nothing that I've come across seems to help.

Some people suggested that this is caused by the server hardware.

I don't think this may be the issue, here's the hardware that I'm running the server on:

Processor - Intel Xeon E3-1230 4 Cores (8 HT Cores)

    RAM - 16 GB DDR3

    HDD - 120 GB SSD

Internetz speed - 100Mbps Unmetered connection.

    Running on Ubuntu Server.

Other people suggested that this is caused by to little memory allocated to Tekkit.

    I've allocated 13GB, so that's shouldn't be the problem.

Again, others suggested that there are way to many people on the server.

There were 15 people online when this started to happen.

I use Java 7 JRE, as far as I know everything is up to date.

    List of plugins I use:

    AutoMessage

    BorderGuard

    CoreProtect

    Dynmap

    Essentials

    ItemStacker

    LagMeter

    LWC

    WorldEdit

Other than that I can't think of anything else.

So far it hasn't hindered the server's performance(as far as I can tell anyway), but I fear that it may do so if this keeps up.

If anybody has encountered this problem before, how did they fix it?

  10. Hello,

My question to you is quite simple.

What keeps you, the user, coming back to a minecraft server?

I own a small-ish server, and I constantly have to search for new players, because most will login 3-4 days tops, after they reach the "end-game", they'll get bored and simply leave, never to come back.

I'd really want a steady player base, but I do realize that I have to keep them motivated to come back to the server. All in all, it's about a long term goal they'll need to have in mind. For example build a magnificent structure or have a fantastic base. Whatever floats their boat.

It doesn't really matter what kind it is, PvP, PvE, Tekkit, Hunger Games, etc.

Also, I'd like to ask, how long have you played on a single server and what kind was it?
