  1. Hello ladies and gents, Recently I have bought a dedicated server to host a medium Tekkit server. The server specks are as follows: CPU - Intel Xeon E3 1230 RAM - 16 GB DDR3 HDD - 120 GB SSD and unmetered 100Mbps internetz. Before I do something stupid, I'd thought I'd ask first. My questions are these. 1. Thru a configurable file located in the Tekkit pack the amount of RAM that Tekkit can use can be set. Given that I will be hosting the Tekkit server and a Mumble/Teamspeak, how much RAM should I leave aside just for the OS to run as smooth as possible? 2. Can a complete installation of Tekkit and Mumble/Teamspeak be done via only the terminal? If not, I'm considering installing KDE or Gnome, however, how will this affect the server's performance(if any)? Please keep in mind that Tekkit itself uses a lot of CPU power and hogs up a lot of RAM. 3. For file transfers I'm thinking of using FileZilla with Putty. Would you suggest otherwise? 4. As far as I know Java doesn't have a "designate OS"(Tekkit runs on Java). Could it be possible to pre-configure Tekkit on a Windows machine and simply transfer the files to the server after that? 5. Where exactly could I find a detailed list of all the available commands in the terminal? I mean the "explain it to me like I'm 5" kind of detailed. Thank you.
  2. Hello ladies and gents, I come to you in hope that you are wiser than I. I've recently purchased the following dedicated server configuration: CPU - Intel Xeon E3 1230 - Benchmark - http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Xeon+E3-1230+V2+%40+3.30GHz RAM - 16 GB DDR3 HDD - 120 GB SSD Bandwidth - 100 Mbps Unmetered Running on Ubuntu server I want to know the following(given that most of you have had at least some experience in hosting servers, I'm sure you can help me): The server will be a pure SMP No PvP Tekkit server. 1. How many players will this be able to host? A better question, how much RAM/player is a good ratio? 2. What plugins should I avoid and which ones I should get? 3. Should I disable World Anchors and similar items? 4. Is there a "best" OS for running Tekkit?(Since Java works fine on any OS, the issue would be handling the sequence of operations better, rather than a compatiblity issue) 5. How "compatible" is Tekkit with a x64 OS/java? If there's anything else I should know, please, feel free to post it.
  3. I'm sure there are a lot of experienced server admins on this site, and me, as a newbie wanted to ask you guys before I go spending money on a hosting site.I want to host a Tekkit server, with little to no plugins(the only one that I would like to install is Essentials, other than that, nothing), pure SMP. So here are my questions: 1. What should I look for to begin with in a host? RAM over CPU? Bandwidth? Internet Speed offered? 2. How much RAM is recommended per player? 3. What should I avoid in a hosting site? 4. What is the minimum recommended server configuration for a, let's say, 15 people server? 5. Could anybody suggest a site that they have had the pleasure of working with in the past which left a good impression on them? 6. Given that in the future I'd want to install other plugins, which ones should I avoid? Thank you for your time.
  4. Hello, Recently a server I'm running started to "spit out" the dreaded error:"[server] WARNING Can't keep up! Did the system time change, or is the server overloaded?" It seems that the problem was caused by items left on the ground by players, Darkrooms etc. After using the command /remove drops [radius] the error disappeared. Is there a plugin that can do this for me? First thing that came to Mind was NoLagg, but how well does it interact with a Tekkit server? And given that it does have that command, what is a decent interval for drops to be removed? As a side note, what other things can cause the above mentioned error? The server itself is hosted by a hosting site. 1GB of RAM, no idea what the CPU is, from what their site says it's Intel® Core™ i7-920 Quadcore with Hyper-Threading Technology but given that Minecraft uses only one core that's not really much of a help.
  5. I'm using Essentials Plugin and for some reason I CANNOT for the life of me get the water to flow. This is the .config file http://pastebin.com/2SH2RJEY if anybody has any idea what I'm doing wrong, please let me know. Also, the server is Tekkit...in case anybody wonders.
  6. Good morning gents and ladies, I'll cut right to the chase: I very recently opened a Tekkit server, and have 0 experience configuring it. The interface looks like this and the files that are currently on the server confing thing are these. I have no idea how the heck it's running Tekkit since I don't see any files that would indicate that Tekkit is even installed. As you may have guessed the interface itself is Multicraft. The server is up and running, people can connect to it and so on. So my concerns are the following: First and foremost: How do I disable some items(such as TNT and so on). Can plugins be installed? And if so, where do I even begin to get them from? From what I've seen most plugins aren't even compatible with the latest version of Tekkit. For now, that's 'bout it. I have searched the forums for similar posts, but so far didn't find any. I do believe I'm not using the search function properly... Later Edit: From what I can tell, disabling items is done in the RedPower files...but I don't have them. I'm really confused and feel incredibly stupid -.-
