  1. Step 1: Locate a suitable PC with at least 2 GB RAM (you can make them with less but don't expect it to hold many players - less than 5 players for less RAM)

Step 2: Download and install java version 7

Step 3: Download tekkit server 3.1.2

Step 4: unpack that zip file somewhere (doesn't matter where so long as you know where it is)

Step 5: where you unpacked the contents locate the file launch.bat and EDIT it

the default is - java -Xmx3G -Xms2G -jar Tekkit.jar nogui

On a 2GB RAM PC change it to - java -Xmx1024m -Xms1024M -jar Tekkit.jar nogui

I've bolden the 2 important bits, this is the RAM, the default line expects you to have at LEAST 5GB RAM to run, this is often why people who just download and run tekkit crash (using Windows) without it ever starting. So adjust the startup line to suit your RAM configuration.

Step 6: Run launch.bat from the tekkit folder

Step 7: in the command prompt window that appears wait until it finishes processing everything and you get a > prompt back. At this prompt type stop and press enter, you will be prompted to press any key when it's stopped successfully (the black window will disappear).

Step 8: in the tekkit folder a load of new files and folders will appear:

Step 8a: setting your server properties - edit server.properties file make any changes like motd, level-name (server name) and adjust any of the other settings in here to suit the type of server you are making.

Step 8b: adding player names to ops.txt allows for OPs (admins) on your server, I personally play on my server without ANY OPs since the temptation to just spawn items sometimes gets too great smile.png

Step 8c: configure tekkit by altering files in the config folder, these are too vast to go through one at a time here. The exception is EE which places it's config folder in root, called mod_EE.props.

Step 9: After launching your server and checking it works (by connecting to it using the Tehnic launcher) the hardest part is getting it to show on the internet. This will most likely require some form of port forwarding on your router.

Step 10: Find your internet address. The vast majority of routers work behind NATd IPs (well they do in the UK smile.png so you need to find your internet address, easiest way to do this is to google myip and use one of the first 2 or 3 links that show up. It is this IP that you need to pass to people along with the port.

    Step 11: good luck biggrin.png

  2. I think the first question you need to ask yourself is what type of server do I want to run .. pvp/pve griefing/non-griefing economy/non-economy etc etc

Then you need to ban items according to the type of server.

Specifically a lot of EE items have no place on non-griefing servers, collectors and emc machines ruin economy servers and mods like balkons have little place on a pve server.

As for lag, the majority are caused by emc machines which are built because collectors get banned.

BC pipes can cause a lot of lag but banning or removing the entire BC mod is a really bad idea.

  3. Problem with light detector is it sends a redstone signal where there is light so that doesn't help you much because you dont' want your lamps on when there is light. So use the light detector (it will need adjusting) and then use a "NOT gate" to switch the redstone signal, so when your light detector is on your lamps are off and when your light detector is off your lamps are on.

  4. I know it's kinda off topic but the only thing I have found that you cannot do with rp tubes is take fuel out of an oil refinery.

With regards to oil fabricators and pumping the oil out, well you don't need to pump out of an oil refinery, tanks of any side of the oil fab will receive the oil automatically (even on top of the oil fab). To get oil from an oil fab to an oil refinery just sit the oil refinery directly on top of the oil fab (no pipes needed). If anyone knows a way to get fuel out of an oil refinery not using BC pipes lemme know please (RP fluid pipes wont connect to it and the oil ref has no right click effect).

  5. BC pipes cause a lot of issues (so I'm finding out) use redpower tubes to resolve the issue.

Quarry running on rp tubes =

    Place quarry

Place chest on top of quarry (directly on top)

Place filter against chest and tube back to your location/base into another chest

Place sorting machine against that chest and tube into relevant chests/condenser.

Set timer on sorting machine to 750

Using RP tubes has several pluses

    - No overspill anywhere

    - Better transition of items (no slow cubes and no graphical glitches specially with diamond pipes)

    - Doesn't cause map corruption

    - Doesn't cause as *much* lag if taking items over a long distance

Not a lot of people realise just how good redpower tubing is since they take the BC pipe system as it's easier to understand.

  6. Simply use more than 1 redstone engine on the wooden pipe leading from the macerator, each engine will pump put it's own blaze, so in theory with a redstone engine on each side of the pipe you'll be pumping 4x the blaze powder. I know you can back stack (put one redstone engine behind another) in some circumstances, not tried this with pipes but it's worth a shot.

  7. meh what.... take all the wooden conductive out and put the energy link right next to the quarry and connect the energy link via the fibre and it will work, there's no need for the wooden conductive at all.

Oh and all the blocks/ore/crap comes out of the top of the quarry so you want to connect some transport pipes to it.

  8. Adv Insertion pipe in BC does what you need, simply use the AIP where the pipe connects to the chest and branch off this to another chest, if it wont fit in the first it will go to the second one. But everyone I know pipes all the "crap" (cobblestone, gravel, sand, dirt, etc) into a condenser to make something else.
