I'm getting the exact same problem, white screen and everything. However it decided not to update for me after I cleared the cache trying to fix the whitescreen. EDIT: I solved the update problem. Just back up your .minecraft folder and delete it, then update. It should work.

I have made a server for my brother and I to play on at home, and it was working fine until after I added the Sphax texture pack. When I try to join the server, it says "Logging In..." and the screen goes white and freezes shortly after. The command prompt says something like "SpartanBlocked disconnected:genericReason" I tried deleting my player data, but it made no difference. So I tried clearing the cache to see if it would help. Now I can't even start Tekkit! When I try to log in, it says it's downloading minecraft.jar, then when it finishes it says "Update Failed!" and it keeps me in the launcher. What is going on, and how do I fix it? INFO: I'm using (or was using) the development build, I forget exactly why...something was wrong with the recommended build. Also, I'm running Java 7. I tried deleting the tekkit folder in AppData, reinstalling the launcher, and it always does the same thing. Here is the report from the launcher log:
