  1. Well I'm not going to defend the offensive language of the banned Chubs, but when a noobie joins with a problem, they seem to get quite aggressive responses from established members here. I would imagine its putting off people from joining, and quite intimidating. That can't be good for the overall health of the community or the "product".
  2. Oh sorry, I thought they were entirely (in the technical sections) about seeking and offering help with technical problems.
  3. To be fair Jorcer the common problems and solutions sticky does not say anything about how, with some browsers (including the most commonly used one), the .jar file actually downloads as a .zip file, and possible solutions for that problem. This particularly important IMO because there is also nothing on this board in a sticky that acknowledges that the technic launcher seems to have stopped working for quite a few people, and using the .jar is the only option for some people.
  4. Are there any rules about trying to keep on topic? Isn't this supposed to be forum about technical problems, and not about taking the piss out of somebody, who if I understand it correctly, has lost the right of reply?
  5. Glad you have a fix. I was having the same problem as you and found that the .jar download worked for me too. For the record, you can use any browser to download it, not just Firefox. For example, with Internet explorer, you have to "Save As" and save the download with a .jar extension instead of a .zip
  6. It worked for me once I'd managed to download and save the jar file as a jar instead of a zip.
  7. Thanks, this has worked for me. I changed the extension during the download with "Save As" command. The extension is by default hidden in Windows 7. Didn't need to right-click either, double-click did the job.
  8. I'm brand new too At the Technic installer page, click the green download button. Choose the Linux/JAR button When Internet Explorer invites you to Run, Save, or Save As, choose "Save As" Change the filename so that it ends in ".jar" instead of ".zip" After it has downloaded, when you double-click it, it should run as a Java program
  9. Isn't issuing warnings the responsibility of the mods?
  10. The Windows version isn't working for me [or to be precise, my son ] I downloaded the Linx/Jar with Internet Explorer, and like OG Chubs has said, it gets saved as a .zip file, which is very confusing. I changed the filetype in Windows from .zip to .jar, and it works fine, which is good because the .exe is refusing to work. (Perhaps the fact that the .jar file gets converted to .zip when you download using MS IE needs to go in the FAQ? Or maybe the website owners that host the file for download need to fix it on the server?)
  11. Noobie to java here. After I download and unzip the third one, how do I run it on Windows please?
  12. I have the same problem as the original poster. OS is Windows 7 32-bit Java 7 update 7 installed to default folder, no previous version ever installed Kaspersky 2012 installed, but disabled during Java install and when downloading or running the launcher Launcher is the version from this site, downloaded yesterday, file size is 58,880 bytes Have never had a previous version of the launcher or mod packs, Minecraft account was opened only yesterday, and the game installed. It works fine. Get exactly the same "stopped working" dialog as original poster, just a couple of seconds after it starts running. After the error, the %appdata%/.techniclauncher folder has only a logs sub folder with an empty log file, so there's no alternative .jar file to try and use, or any other files either. Hope that detail helps with debugging.
