In defense of the OP, I'm not sure why you two are so hung up on the two things being 'different'. He's comparing the effect of the two, not the two directly.
OP: 'Apples' are good for you. 'Oranges' are good for you. I think the effect of apples and oranges on your body are similar.
Response: Wait, wait, you can't compare those two things, they are apples and oranges.
I think the point of the post was that he thinks votifier can have negative effects on the game economy because it is an imbalanced way to acquire resources. He then used 'EE' as the standard bearer for things that are an imbalanced way to acquire resources.
Who cares if one is a mod and one is a plug-in? He is grouping them in a taxonomy as 'things that are bad for a game economy' with no comment on their 'how they integrate with minecraft' taxonomy.
