Can't allocate 1.5gb RAM on 32bit OS

In the past, maybe a year or two ago I was able to allocate 1.5GB to minecraft. With some update of the technic launcher long ago this changed, to only let me allocate 1GB, but it hasn't been a problem until recently. Is there any way I can force it to use 1.5GB, or fix the issue that's preventing me from allocating that much? For reference I have and have always had 2GB of RAM, and i'm running windows 8 32bit; I used to run windows xp 32bit and i've experienced this problem on both operating systems.

Get a 64bit OS and more RAM
