Launcher crashes shortly after opening, it shows Mojang screen then closes

I have Windows 8.1 now, this problem started while I had Windows 8. I'm not sure why, I did have the latest version of Java until I read on the forum it would not allow Hexxit to open. That was when I went back to Java 7 Update 71. Still can not play the game. Please help. I have the crash report but know how to post it.
