problems with server launch

after i extracted the files to a folder i launch the tekkit jar . the computer seems to load something but no windows pop up or anything else . the server is running and i can join but to close the server i have to use control alt delete . im i installing it wrong ? could somebody please help me

Would it be possible to get some further necessary informations like: Which Operating system do you use?

If you use Windows: Have you tried to start the launcher.bat instead?

Which JRE do you use?

To stop the server it is possible to enter simply "stop" which could be found out like other commads with the simple entry of "help" in the console of the server.

Could this help you out?

i run windows 7

i tried launchung launc.bat i got an error message:

error occured during instalation of um

could not reserver enough space for object heap

error:could not create the java virtual machine

error: a fatal exception has occured . program will exit

im sorry im new to running servers whats a "JRE"

i can stop the server while im in minecraft using /stop command, but is there a way of closing it down without having to log into it . there is no gui whatsoever the server seems to run completely in the background
