MC 1.2.5 Nether lag

I've been looking to see if anyone has fixed the lag issues in 1.2.5 related to the lighting of lava. The symptom is that every time that chunks reload in the nether, framerates drop below 5fps. This happens once every 10-15 seconds and makes nether play extremely difficult and frustrating. I found one individual who created a working fix, but it unfortunately doesn't work with Tekkit. I've tried dumping the files into modpack and minecraft jar files, and also tried putting it in the mod folder. I don't really know enough about coding to go any further with it. BTW I am running the (rec) build.

Has anyone found or created a working tekkit fix for this? Can't seem to find one anywhere.
