Checking Launcher Version then close

Everytime I run the .exe, it says Checking Launcher Version, then closes.

Yes, I HAVE searched the forums for the past 30 minutes and it seems someone else has asked this question and did not receive an answer but rather "search the forums". Kind of a Catch 22 there.

I'm running Windows XP, Java is up to date, fresh Minecraft install. Some suggestions would be great!

This is what you are looking for. It is the first problem. You are gonna get some flack (in the form of a pink name) with that being in a sticky called "common problems (and their solutions)" in this very section of the forum.

I figured it out, however it's extremely misleading as far getting the mod installed without the launcher as it's under Linux and Mac.
