Technic Launcher won't start

Launcher Version: Latest

Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit

Java Version: Java 7 Update 4 64 bit

Antivirus Program: AVG free

Description of Problem:

I'm having the problem:

Opening the .exe does nothing, or flashes a loading icon, or says "checking launcher version" then closes.

I have read the common problems sticky, however it did not help. Both my OS and Java are 64 bit, yet I'm having the same issue.

Please help.

I've been at it for over 3 hours now. I reinstalled java, tried creating a batch file, added java to my system path variable.. still no luck.

Some help would be greatly appreciated.

Get rid of AVG. You clearly didn't read the sticky closely enough. The thing almost never works with the launcher.

If no matter what you do, the exe just doens't work, go to your .techniclauncher folder and there should be a .jar in there. If not then download

it from www.technicpack.net and use that. Read further up the list for how to determine the bit version of your OS or JAVA.

Try this. It should hopefully fix your problem, and it was also on the Common Problems and Solutions Sticky.

Am I supposed to run the .jar file with Java SE Binary? (java.exe)

Just to make sure, I did, Open with>Browse>Program Files>java>jre7>bin>java

I tried that, literally nothing happens, the "Checking Launcher Version" thing doesn't even flash.
