Deleted the technicpack folder in %appdata%

Question

Posted

Launcher Version: newest download

Operating System: windows 7 64bit

Java Version: 64bit

Antivirus Program: norton

Description of Problem:

NEI stopped working so I deleted the entire technic folder and re-downloaded it (I know this is a drastic thing to do, but hey, everybody makes mistakes), it stops at the banner screen and does nothing else, even if I leave it alone for an hour or two.

I've noticed that the new technic folder is missing various important things, such as the bin ect. I've tried almost everything I can think of.

Can anyone help?

Error Messages: None. it just says checking launcher updates and then freezes at the banner.

Error Log: .. Don't know what this is...

That wasn't very helpful.

Neither was your "bug report". Shall I list the reasons?

1) "Up to date" is not a version number. It's not hard to get that number, so you should post it.

2) You also need to put down which bit version of both Windows 7 and Java you're using, and make sure they match.

3) The use of "Too Many Items" in your problem description indicates that you didn't read the Common Problems and Solutions sticky. We don't use TMI.

4) You used a drastic solution (reinstalling the launcher and presumably mod pack) for a simple problem (NEI stopped working) that may have been easy to fix.

5) "now it doesn't work!" is not a problem description, at least not one we can work with. It's up to you to provide enough information so we can help you. If you told an auto mechanic a car doesn't work and expected him to fix it anyway, he'd probably laugh in your face.

6) A complete lack of error messages or error log means this bug report is useless to you.

So, try again.

I've updated it, may be easier for you to understand.

Apparently It's not tmi as terminator here told me.

I don't see the difference.

And I don't know what an "error log" is or how to view it.

But that's beside the point. Did I get enough information for you to help me?

That's a bit better. You probably won't have a launcher/error log if the launcher hasn't run successfully. Try adding an exception in Norton for the launcher to allow it to download. Norton, McAfee, and especially AVG like to mess with the launcher, detecting it as a virus-like program or something. If that doesn't work, disable Norton entirely for the download.

Norton's a system resources drain anyway - I'd advise a free product, like MSE or Avast!, that's just as good at catching things and not so hard on your system.

I'll try it. But when I download it, norton says at the bottom right that the download is safe.

I've redownloaded it with norton completely turned off, but still in my technic launcher folder it only has a few items in it.
