On launching modpack, launcher closes then reopens

The crux of the error is that on hitting the play button, assets appear to load, the window closes as if it's going to load MC, and then it just reopens the launcher again with no sign of opening Minecraft.

Same is happening to me - and I was just playing successfully a couple hours ago. It's not that i need to revert to Java 7 (seen in another thread)  - it seems like the launcher is just being a jerk. 

 

Anyone have an answer to this? I can't rightly do my mod duties if technic won't launch my game.
