''Checking Launcher Version'' then closes in a second

Launcher Version: Technic 7.1 (i think, I downloaded it today so it should be the latest)

Operating System: Windows 7

Java Version: Java 7 Update 5

Antivirus Program: AVG (i have already temporarily disabled it)

Description of Problem:

I downloaded techniclauncher.exe and it downloaded then nothing happened, i clicked it again and it says ''Checking Launcher Version'' and then closes after a half a second. I have re-installed the launcher lot's of times and re-installed Java lot's of times too. I tried going in the Roaming folder then .Techniclauncher and opening the .jar file but it says ''unable to launch application''

Don't just disable AVG - remove it. It's a blight on your computer.

I uninstalled and removed everything to do with AVG on my computer. i tried the launcher again but i still says checking launcher version the closes. I also have Superantispyware but i forgot to include that, do i have to uninstall that as well or does it not matter.

Superantispyware? Doesn't sound familiar. I'd try disabling it and seeing what happens.

Ensure you DEFINITELY have Java Runtime Environment 7 installed,

and then use just the .jar

i definitely have it installed, when i try use the .jar it loads then says unable to launch the application

I'm having the same problem and don't have AVg or Superantispyware. i've had this problem for around 4 days and i just want to play tekkit. i also have java runtime enviroment 7, but don't know how to use the jar.

Okaaay.

Try putting this in the parameters of the .jar, using Run as Administrator

C:\>assoc .jar=jarfile

C:\>ftype jarfile="C:\Program Files\Java\jre\bin\javaw.exe" -jar "%1" %*

C:\>ftype jarfile="C:\path\to\your\javaw.exe" -jar "%1" %*

Go to Properties

Add everything I pasted, into the Target field.

Run as Administrator.

Had the same problem tryed everything here nothing worked and the_darthmoogle it comes up as what the original poster said was happening so help?

All right, radical solution here.

Copy the entire Java folder from Program Files,

into Program Files x86

I would be intrigued if that works.

EDIT : Continue using the .jar after this.

I go into properties of the .jar file and there is no target field the paste into, i asked my friends if they could do that but they have no target field either. all of them are on windows 7 aswell. i tried pasting the entire java file into program files (x86) but that did not work either

Looks like a Windows 7 popup to me. Of course, appearances can be deceiving. What do the Details say?

I open properties to my Technic Launcher but i can't find it, please help.

OK if anyone still has problems with Windows 7 64-bit when your technic launcher closes immidiatly after checking try this, go to C/program files/java and copy it into your C/program files (x86)

then when you did that do the next thing: start> type in : %appdata% > that should open up your Roaming folder > open .techniclauncher > right mouse button on technic-launcher.jar and go to propperties then it should give you the general screen, you see filetype and under that open with, if its correct you can now select to change what you open the program with and if i'm correct there should be 2 programs right at the top, try selecting either of the 2, if the first 1 doesn't work try the other, thats how i got it to work
