The Launcher doesn't work/display properly (or as intended)

Question

Posted

Technic%20Launcher.png

Launcher Version: The latest version on

Operating System: Windows 7 (64)

Java Version: Java 7.5

Antivirus Program: Microsoft Security Essentials

Description of Problem:

The Launcher doesn't display the images for the modpacks; a message states that "O noes, our tumblr feed is down", and after pressing login there is a message stating "updating failed"

These things happened 2 days ago (28/7/2012) , after i decided to play technic pack again. I allready did the following options:

1) Deleting / reinstalling the technic launcher and /or minecraft file in %appdata%

2) Allowing acces through the firewall (windows fire wall)

3) Fixing java, downloading the latest version and assuring the right version is connected to the technic launcher

4) Tried fixing my internet, only to find out it was allready workign perfectly fine.

My questions on this are

a) Am i the only one experiencing this right now, or is everyone getting the same issues (For example, the servers are down

B) is this a problem due to my own pc, or is it a internet /server issue

c) can you help me fixing this issue? (i've allready been looking for 2 days on the forums here, and on other forums like the one at yogscast.com)

Thanks in advance!

You're the only person I've seen posting this recently, though there's always a first person when minecraft.net is having issues, or the Technic site is down. It just doesn't look like that's the issue right now.

So:

- You've definitely deleted the entire .techniclauncher folder?

- You're 100% certain you have 64-bit Java to match your 64-bit OS ("java -version" in a command prompt will confirm this)

- You tried running the .jar version of the launcher after the .exe didn't work?

Yes, i've been doing all of these things.I've read the sticky about Java and tried a number of things from there and i'm 99.99% sure it is ok. As for the .techniclauncher, i went to the %appdata% and pressed delete on the .techniclauncher and delete the .exe file aswell (i hope that is/was enough).

Also just discovered a couple of things today, that might also be of value for the problem:

-The launcher connects to mincraft.net after i log in, but when it goes into " checking for updates", i get the "updating failed" message.

-When i press options in the launcher, it says next to the Modpack Build: "no builds found".

I hope these things can povide more information on the problem, and of course thank you you very much for helping, in advance.

Update failed usually means an antivirus/firewall is blocking the launcher (looks fine in your case), or for whatever reason the .exe isn't working correctly. Have you tried the .jar? You didn't say.

Yes i'm sorry, i forgot, i allways use the .jar file in the .techniclauncher.

And the antivirus i have is MSE, whitch means i use Windows Firewall (correct?), so i allowed acces through there. As far is a checked, there aren't any other options within MSE, that can make issues with the launcher.

There were multiple log files in "logs", i don't know what one or how much you need of it, so i picked the most recent file and copy/pasted a small part of what was inside, since most of it is recurring, as you will see, and it was well beyond the max 5000 characters for a post.

Try deleting your .techniclauncher folder entirely (if you haven't already), get a new copy of the launcher (it was updated post MC-1.3.1 release), and turn Windows Firewall completely off.

It looks like it failed to download a file

[00:21:18] [sEVERE] Download of Failed!

More then three times. I think when that happens it pops out an error and stops the download from going any further. Best I can say is (Even though you have put an exception in) turn off the firewall and AV for a little bit, run the launcher, and see what happens. Aside from that, you might have just been unlucky and attempted to get that file while the server had a hic-cup.

Unfortunatly, when i tried doing it again (deleting the .techniclauncher folder, disabeling both AV and firewall and re-downloading the technic launcher from http://www.technicpack.net/technic/), it still gives a) me a launcher with no visible tekkit/technic/yogbox/etc icons, eventhough i can click on them when they are grey B) the tumblr feed is down c) update failed d) no builds found.

I'll try and do these thing a couple of times more in an attempt to make it work.

Eventhough it still doesn't work, thanks again for your help, and sorry for this annoying case.

I've been having the same problem; to me it looks like normal Minecraft not like the Technic Pack. But mine is on Mac so that might be the problem. I've only recently downloaded it, so there might be a slight blip in Technic Launcher at the moment.

Problem solved, after many many many redownloads and such, the launcher finaly yielded and started downloading.

Never mind what i typed here earlier, this morning the same thing occured again, eventhough i have technic SSP installed, it said "update failed" and "the tumblr feed is down" and all icons are grey.

I have no idea why that 1 attempt yesterday night broke through, so i guess i'll be back of to try again. Getting close to the point now i'm just going to accept i'll never be able to make the launcher and /or technicSSP work on my pc

If you have it installed, try deleting your lastlogin and launcher.properties files. Sometimes the launcher just needs to get its connection done itself, for whatever reason.

Didn't work aswell, i'm back to where i started it seems, the same issues with the tumblr feed and download failed. I've been deleting/redownloading the launcher the whole day now to see if i could get it back running like it did last night, but to no end.

To be honnest, i have no more ideas as to what is the problem.

Sorry to keep bothering you with this, but it just seems so strange nothing works to install it.

Have you tried sweeping through your Programs list in Control Panel to look for old AV software/antispyware installs, and making sure you only have one version of Java?

  • 0
Posted

I have, and MSE is the only antivirus i ever had, so there wasn't any other anti-virus software in the list. As for the Jave, there is the Java 7 update 5 in the list, but also something called Java FX 2.1.1. Could this be interfering (sorry if spelled wrongly) with the other Java software for the technic launcher or is it "harmless"?

How do you mean, how are you running the .jar? I just go into the .techniclauncher file and click on the .jar file, not sure if that's the answer you were looking for though.

Have you tried running it with a batch file, just to see if there are errors or something? There's a batch file in the server files that you could edit, if you're unfamiliar enough to create your own.

I thinnk i have a solution for you as i had this same problem. If you are the administrator of your computer then run the launcher as administrator once in it shouldn't have the tumblr feed as being down and then click options and the build type you want. The latest one isnt working for me but im using the one before that and that works. It's not the best as it's not the latest update but it's better than nothing right? Hope this helps for you.
