after launching tekkit I get a white screen and then an error screen

this is on a fresh install

Interesting which version of java are you running 64x or 32x? This may impact how the launcher loads the mods. Also as for fresh install are you deleting your %appdata% tekkit folder?

I've actually got no idea which java version I'm using I had to do a complete system restore due to someone crippling the windows services when I took it in for a simple cleaning. I downloaded java from the site and just got the standard one and I have no idea how to check. (google revealed nothing) and I can't find the 32 bit installation on oracle or I would just reinstall. If you need more information I'd be happy to provide it.

erm download the latest java and if its right it will reinstall itself. Make sure its the Java 7 JRE and that it is 32x as your running vista 32x

reinstalling worked, thank you so much. I didn't have this problem before I had to system restore so it was quite a surprise.

turns out it didn't work an hour or two later and I'm having the problem again.

To check your java version, open a command window and type

java -version

 Let us know what it spits out. If it's not 

build 1.7.0_05-b05

then grab the latest JRE here. You'll want the "Windows x86 Offline" version.

Also, you should probably post in the Technic Launcher Bugs/Problems sub-forum instead of here, as this is for Technic Server bugs.

Hmm, well give the guys approach above a shot and then maybe try this Ive spotted this OpenGL: null version null, null. Minecraft is based on the driver OpenGL, what a system restore wont really do will restore your drivers in some cases. Restore your drivers and then go and seek out a OpenGL driver that is compatible for your system or just a graphics driver. Also it seems that yours may have corrupted or any other number of issues. Reinstall your drivers and try and find a openGl one then get back to us.

I uninstalled then reinstalled my video card drivers and it seemed to work, though I don't yet know if it will regress like reinstalling java did :X
