Making the server

I'm not sure on what to do. Can I just run the Tekkit server from the download, or do I have to put it in the original Minecraft multiplayer server?

Yes. Though, if you're unwilling or unable to figure out what to do, and expect a Tekkit server to run itself for you (including backups, plugins, etc., etc...) then:
