Setting up a decent Server.

Hello all!

I have had a small tekkit server for a few months now and it's been just a few close friends playing with everything enabled but it became boring as unlimited EE and high end IC2 stuff seems to take the meaning out of survival.

Anyways I digress. Long story short we are now looking to restart the server with a lot disabled and also balanced a bit so we can have a decent server for when we expand for more people.

what I have so far banned is:

Removed from Equivalent Exchange:

Energy Collectors - Free Items

Catalytic Lens - Block breaking

Destruction Catalyst - Block breaking

Hyperkinetic Lens - Block breaking

Mercurial Eye - Spamming materials

Ring of Ignition - Lots of fire

Ring of Arcana - Lots of fire

Volcanite Amulet - Spam lava

Nova Catalyst - Huge explosion

Nova Cataclysm - Huge explosion

Infernal Armor - Spammable explosions

Abyss Helmet - Spammable lightning bolts

Zero Ring - Making snow

Evertide Amulet - Spam water

Red Matter Tools

Dark Matter Tools

Removed from Industrial Craft

Quantum Armor - Nigh Invincibility isn't what we are going for.

Nano Armor - Nigh Invincibility isn't what we are going for.

Removed in general

Chunk Loaders - Mod or Admin use only.

Now thats not to say that some of these items wont be unlocked in time or anything but is there anything else that in general can mess up an economy or survival gameplay?

Also I am looking into some plugins like towny or factions to encourage a sense of community and cooperation, what would you recommend?

Best thing I could suggest is to browse the servers listed within these forums. Most of us list the most prominent/interesting plugins. I've also listed quite a few on other topics I've posted on. Have a look around ;)

Hey I don't know where to ask this, or how to add a question on the Q&A section, so could you possibly tell me how to set up a Tekkit server? Preferably without Hamachi. If you can't could you possibly tell me where to put this question?

Major thing for limiting mods is to reduce server lag, usually if you arnt running a ssd you limit mods such a wirelessredstone netherore etc... to increase your servers TPS.
