Unable to authenticate account

Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-Bit OS

Java Version: JRE 7 for Windows x64

Antivirus Program: Norton Internet Security (Was preinstalled on this new laptop)

Description of Problem:

When I enter my Mojang account credentials into the Technic Launcher, a box with the error message "Unable to authenticate account with minecraft.net" appears. On a similar note, my default Minecraft Launcher could not connect to Minecraft.net, but a moderator provided a download link to a separate launcher that could allow me to login to Minecraft.

Moderator where? Mojang? Or are you using a cracked launcher for Minecraft?

On the Minecraft forums. A moderator there provided a download link for a few other people who had the same problem.

EDIT: I can post a link to that thread, if you need to see what I mean.

This is the first time, I think, this has been posted on this board, at least in the last few months, so it can't be that common. Have you tried copying the one you got from them and overwriting the one in the .techniclauncher folder? At least, if you're referring to a minecraft.jar, there is one in there.

Because I can't actually sign into the technic launcher, no jar files have been downloaded.

Technic launcher = the actual jar file. (%appdata%\.techniclauncher" - disguised as technic-launcher-latest.jar)

In .techniclauncher I have: cache, launcher, logs, technicssp, tekkit, temp (all of those are folders), launcher.properties (Properties file), and technic-launcher (the exec. jar)

I'm having the same problem... no minecraft is letting me sign in... I've even reset my pword on the minecraft.net site... it's frustrating as hell!

There's a forum post on the MC Forums called "Can't connect to minecraft.net" with a separate launcher download that fixes that problem. Now we just wait for a fix, I guess.

it's probably a problem with minecraft.net

they're having a problem on the main site is what it seems like... I dunno... giving up for today... trying again tomorrow or Wednesday

I am having the same problem. I have had minecraft since version 1.8.1 and had tekkit since last month and this has never happened before. I think there is a problem with minecraft.net

I'm guessing it has to be a problem with minecraft.net. I tried going onto the site not that long ago, but it said that the servers were overloaded, or something similar. We should probably just wait until they've got it all fixed, since we can't do anything to help it.

I might as well jump on the band wagon... minecraft.net will authenticate but not via technic....

i was able to login to minecraft but then i logged out and tried again and it would not hahahaha. they usually get these problems fixed quickly. But we will see. I think they are just having server problems I have been on forums at minecraftwiki, mojang's website, and tekkit website this is not a local issue it is happening to quite a few people. They should get it fixed.

i just got minecraft yesterday and technic pack a few hours ago, i am getting the same problem, cant authenticate account and cant play online for regular minecraft. please help!!!
