LWJGL fails to load

Brekkjern

Question

Launcher Version: 1.0.1.3

Operating System: MS Win 7 64 bit

Java Version: java version "1.7.0_05" Java SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_05-b06) Java HotSpot 64-Bit Server VM (build 23.1-b03, mixed mode)

Antivirus Program: None

Description of Problem:

After pressing "Login" in the launcher, the new window pops up and remains white. There is no error message and I have to manually close Minecraft. This happens on any modpack as well as the vanilla.

I have been tracking it down to this specific error, but I can't find a solution to it:

[00:59:37] [sEVERE] java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: \tekkit\bin\natives\lwjgl.dll: Can't load IA 32-bit .dll on a AMD 64-bit platform

I have tried:

Deleting .technicpack folder

Deleting launcher.exe

Update Java

Update AMD CCC and drivers

Reinstall Java

Reinstall AMD CCC and drivers

Deleting META-INF in the jinput.jar as detailed on common problems and solutions.

Replacing lwjgl.dll and lwjgl64.dll with latest versions from the lwjgl website.

I am not using the "Use latest LWJGL binaries" setting.

Any and all help is appreciated as I can not figure out this on my own. Google has not been of much help either and all suggestions seem to point to recompiling, but I don't know how that applies to my case. Thanks!

How many versions of Java do you have? Check your Control Panel. That error has always been associated with trying to run 32-bit Java on a 64-bit system. Your Java install in your Control Panel should specifically say 64-bit. If it doesn't, you have the wrong version.

As in the Java control panel? There does not seem to be anything denoting any form of bit, however the only install of Java shown in that panel is in the 64-bit program files folder. As I said, I have even tried to re-install java with no luck.

I thought the art style looked familiar! I read it now and then. Pretty decent webcomic that.

I gave it a shot with the .jar and I still have the same problem. I even tried adding the -d64 switch to the startup parameters, but it didn't seem to do anything.

The setting is greyed out. Is there some way to override that setting?

I haven't figured that out, because it's always been grayed out for me. I'll pass this bug report along to the mod pack team if I can, since I'm not sure what's causing it.

try getting the most recent version from here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/java-game-lib/files/Official%20Releases/LWJGL%202.8.4/

also, I did a little digging and I see what you mean about having a hard time googling the problem. from what I can gather, this issue is caused most often by the 64-bit libraries being inaccessible for some reason. either the JVM has no read permissions to them or it can't find them so it defaults to 32-bit and dies.

the other thing you could also try is using command line arguments to force java to look in the right place for the LWJGL libraries. do this by using the -Djava.library.path="path/to/lwjgl/64bit/dlls" command line parameter. in order to make that stick though you'll need to use a second little trick to prevent the launcher from restarting itself with default parameters. make a batch file in your .techniclauncher directory. in the batch file, place the following lines:

mkdir rtemp

java <insert command line arguments here> -jar techniclauncher.jar

run that to launch the launcher and see how it goes.

I tried everything you listed above and I even combined the suggestions. It didn't work and I still have the same error.

As far as I know, JVM should have read permissions on the .dlls. I can't think of any reasons as to why it wouldn't. My Windows and Java installs are both standard and I have not been playing with permissions settings. From the error though, it seems right that the lwjgl.dll panics because it can't handle 64 bit instructions, but even with the switch you supplied it won't load the 64 bit version.

I figured I would chime back in.

The LWJGL website has a tutorial on how to test if LWJGL is working properly. If you try out that test app with a few debug switches, then you can find a lot of useful data. My issue was an inpage error. They come from various sources, but most commonly from storage or RAM faults. After running a checkdisk scan on the disk, it turns out there was a few faulty sectors and the checkdisk actually made it worse. I found a spare disk and everything is working fine now, but I am going to need a new SSD.

I don't have the logfiles handy as the SSD isn't all that happy to boot, but with the debug switches, the errors specifically mention inpage errors.

I guess the case is closed. Thanks for the help in tracking down this. Couldn't have done it without you!
