Linaru Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 First things first, if you've never been involved with managing a server before this post isnt for you, I am looking for people who know what they are doing. For the rest of you: --------------------- I am preparing to setup a PVP Tekkit server with a Medi-evil theme. i have been running a Private server for a while and those who are on it all agree we should get some more players so we are starting over. This means im going to need some moderators to help organize and manage the Server. Specifically i need moderators with some experince with the technical side of Running a server. The server is going to be running on a custom built gaming computer that acts as my personal server tower its more powerful than most hosting services provide however i doubt i can maintain it by my self. I have been trying to run the server with Multicraft to allow external access for managing it but so far its just been causing errors (thanks to my derpy technical skills no doubt), i would also like to set up a website to go with the server and host that from my computer as well. however i have never tried hosting as webpage on the server tower before and i know some security measures need to be in place to prevent viruses and spyware. Skills we still need: Web art - The server website needs a theme and a main page, our logo could also use some tidying up as well. it runs on Xenforo at the moment Mod / Plugin programming skills - We are Hoping to create some mods and plugins that will 'tidyup' the server, some examples: add a visual element for factions allys and enemys much like the spout features that work on non tekkit servers, create visual blocks and items for common server commands. e.g a Transactions ledger on a table instead of a essentials trade sign, or a Town Bulletin board that provides menu access to factions commands. Html /Website programming skills - We would Like to implement some web based features for for tracking the server status, Faction leader boards , Events calender etc. MY skills in web design are limited and someone with experience would really speed up progress. Terrain control - we need someone with extensive knowledge in either the terrain control plugin or writing world generation plugins, so we can create an interesting world with thick dark forests and ancient ruins randomly generated around it. we want to create a per biome ore system so factions will need to venture out and fight over resources. Music - Provided we get a moderator who can handle mods to run them we might like to add our own music based on the part of the world your in though this is a less required skill at this stage.

Skills: Knowledge of setting up servers, how to configure mods and plugins, networking, dealing with users. Basic programming knowledge. Can't help with webhosting or HTML, sorry. Brief explanation of why i should pick you: I have the skills for it, and I'm not posting hoping for a power trip. I also have a developed sense of personal loyalty and honor, something that seems to be a rarity these days. What you expect: I expect a functional, popular server, and will do everything in my power to make it so. I don't make this app lightly, I want a long-lasting server that I can enjoy playing and moderating on. The two servers I previously moderated on died tragic deaths, one of which was due to infighting amongst the server owner and several of his admins, which I abstained from. I still loved my time there, and would like to have that feeling again. Important note, although my time zone is -8:00 Pacific US, my schedule is unusual and I can be found any time from noon to 3 or 4 AM, which would be 8:00 PM - 12:00 PM UK time, if I've got my time zones correct. Also, I use skype sporadically, but if I'm online, I will always be signed into Steam, username Mystry, and can be found there.

Skills: I know how to set up a server, how to configure plugins, I can some abot networking and how to use the different users. Brif explanation of why I should pick you: I know what I'm doing, and Im not posting this to become something valuable, but I want to do this so I can be a responsable mod which people like. the servers arent about your rank or what you want, its about the owner, admins and mods make the best server for the other people. What you except: I excpect a medieval server which I personaly love, I except it to be functional and popular with good people and good staff. And I do admire your chooise of plugins. I'm on realy much, but somethimes not because of school or vacation but mostly I'm on 2-6 hours per day. I hope I can help you with what you desire, but dont underestimate me because of my age, many has. and Im not a ''kid'' in the head.

Skills: PHP (dus said I could try coding those addon's for ur site) , HTML (well I use PHP dus said I use it too), Java (A bit, learning it while coding my plugin for my server), as a sample of my web skills can be seen here http://zetaworks.servegame.com/ - it is a xampp server (on my windows pc) I cant do skype as long as its running as both skype and xampp want 8080 port and i got only one, as told before I have mini server of my own so I got a skills of setting up perm's & config's of plugin's. What you expect: I expect a grate medi-evil server with grate community and smart owner. What you expect: - Id expect you to be serious about a project like this and take the role of being a complete leader, usually a strong leader/owner makes for a good server, being able to say yes or no when a situation presents it self is what i would expect. - Id expect a small moderator role, if not i can just be someone you can come to for advise.

Skills: -Web Configuration -Server management (Linux OS, Plugin Config, Error Management, Building), good at Windows too but it is not as good of a server platform as linux is -Web Programming (CSS, PHP, C# ASP, VB ASP, HTML), best at backend -Very good at automating machines and building large-scale machines -Very good at stress testing servers for bugs and exploits -Love the thought of steampunk and medieval and I am very good at both -Programming (Java, C++, C#, VB) Why you should pick me: I know alot about tekkit inside and out and am a dedicated builder and I am also a people person. What you expect: Communication between moderators and admins so that nothing goes wrong because with tekkit communication is key in SMP.

This allows me to visualize what I need to do, solutions, and repercutions of that action in a heartbeat. This allows me to have a insanely quick responce time to player events or actions. For example, we had a player on a private server I moderated on login, abuse the NEI glitch, then plant nukes. After the second one, IPbanned. I had setup a script inside my custom modded tekkit client to auto-open inventorys and check for banned items. On another note, this also causes my spelling to be quight lacking in grammer and spelling, however I have the vocabiulary of a collage level student. I get school credit for minecraft, so it is very possable for me to be able to spend a insane ammount of time in contact with the server owner, its admins, and its players. I am also quight skilled in "stress testing" of a server, as I know a fiew exploits of various mods. What you expect: I personaly expect that there will be a server administration that is ferm in its rules, and that the server owner is strict with his/her's administration staff. I expect that the staff will be timely in reviewing bans, kicks, and other action. I also expect that there will be a fun side to the administration, so its not just administration all the time. What you expect: a good (no-lag) medieval/steam punk server with a big castle style building

Previous moderating experience: Been mods on various servers - this will be my first on tekkit because you don't see people looking for staff a lot on tekkit. Even though I haven't been staff on a tekkit server doesn't mean I know how plugins work and how tekkit works as I have played it for quite some time now. Skills: I have coded my own single player mod with no errors and could help with the programming the world gen, but I have no experience with plugins, but hey that's what tutorials are for. Brief explanation of why i should pick you: I can handle situations very well, although it wouldn't seem like it because of my age I'm fairly mature. Being able to help you get this server moving along would be great and getting a good player base would be nice too. What you expect: A hard grueling time getting through the dark days of getting it set-up from scratch, but you'll get there with your fellow mods too.
