Does pumping oil into a full tank waste the oil?

I've currently got this setup:

tank

pump with 4 redstone engines

Currently I manually disable the engines when the tanks are full, because I'm not sure if oil gets wasted.

Does the pump just waste the oil when it has nowhere to send it or does it just not pump?

Nope. The pump will stop pumping if the tanks, the pipes and the internal buffer of the pump are full.
