Lowlyspy Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 First off, i'm completely new to making servers so don't bite my head off if I ask stupid questions, i'm still learning this stuff. I got my server working this morning and was able to connect to it fine. When my friend tried to connect it wouldn't let him, it said the server timed out but I hadn't seen anything odd on my end. I'm fairly certain I gave him the correct seed and theoretically he should have been able to connect with no trouble, neither of us were having wifi issues so I have no clue what the deal is. Also for some reason I can't use any of the chat commands, to include granting anyone op status, including myself. Any help would be appreciated, thanks. Quote
darzavor Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 He doesn't need your world seed. He needs your external ip adress and you need to do some port forwarding in your router probably. My advice is that you look up some basic minecraft server setup guides. Quote
Expozay Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 A seed is not what the person needs to connect to, it's the external IP Address of the computer your server is running off of. Also, You'll have to open a port for TCP in order to accept incoming connections. To be able to use chat commands, you'll need to grant yourself permissions to use them. There are different groups you can add in a permissions file, than adding the permissions to the group you want them to be capable of using. Lookup PermissionsEx at Bukkit.org As for opping, type the following into the console "op [username]" ____ Most of this which I assume you probably don't understand, provided you just started. Feel free to add me on skype @ jack.tremor, I'm more than helpful in settup up servers for them noobies : D Quote
