Anyone elses Quarry leave the middle untouched?

I haven't tried in quarries near me, but my remote quarries, after a certain amount of digging, start digging only the outside.

It works if I'm standing around long enough though. Here is a screen shot to show what it looks like.

Its not like it doesn't dig all the way down, it just leaves a large column in the middle of the quarry.

Just curious if there is anything I can do.

Is the middle platform exactly 16*16? then it would be a chunk loading issue.

You win Daniel. It is. It just didn't hit me because it loads all around it. Just leaving a random chunk out of the middle seems odd. I don't think the size is hurting it as I thought you could do up to 64x64 quarries and each one is half that. But it could be positioning I guess.
