I can't login, downloading stops and says can't download. I have no firewalls at all.

Go grab a new launcher. If that doesn't work, it's likely there's an issue on the minecraft.net end.

That's an authentication problem, almost guaranteed to be a minecraft.net issue. MD5 hashes can be "renewed" by restarting, usually.

Torezu, can you please explain. I was under the impression that an MD5 hash never changes as it is used to authenticate, if it changed how could you write a program which authenticates against a random number generator?

I seem to have been mistaken. I think the issue has to do with the latest pre-release from Mojang. I would guess there will be a launcher update shortly.

i got a couple of weird files in my temp folder, the minecraft.jar file was only 2mb and i got another file called patched_minecraft.jar.

Yeah booo Mojang!!! i had a afternoon of tekkit planned!!! :)
