Adding more RAM to a server/launcher

I have hosted many server(Vanilla, Bukkit,etc) myself, but I have been struggling with adding more RAM to Tekkit server. Every time I try to add more RAM into the launcher

I always get an error if the RAM is over 1 gig and the server wont open. Is it going to be ok if I allocate more RAM in "TechnicLauncher" while the server launcher has less? .I have 8 gigs of RAM and is using only 2 without opening the server.

It may be just because you didn't dedicated enough ram to java.Though i am not sure cause i am on mac it's little bit different when you launch server and do this kind of stuff.
