Unknown tekkit sever error (Mac)

So today I go to put up my private tekkit server. Open up the client and it says my server isn't up. There were no errors in the console, my IP address didn't change, the port forwarding wasn't edited, and I know the server launched because I was able to access it through localhost. I even tried re-making the server and re-downloading the client. The error it kept giving me was "connection refused." I am a bit frustrated by this. Also I am on a Mac
