java.util.zip.ZipException: Not in GZIP format

Question

Title: java.util.zip.ZipException: Not in GZIP format

Version: 3.1.2

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium

Java Version: 7

Description of Problem:

My computer crashed and I was forced to kill the machine without being able to shut off the server correctly. When I turned my machine back on the Tekkit server loaded all the mods as normal, but then proceeded to give me a long string of sever errors. I thought that they server may have been corrupted so I reinstalled it, loaded up my map and server.properties file and got the same error log. Fearing that my maps may have been corrupted I installed a completely new version of tekkit without importing anything to see if it would work, still no luck. In order to see if perhaps java was corrupted in some way I ran a couple of other Java programs, and everything seems to be working well, so I'm guessing that that there isn't anything wrong with my Java Virtual Machine. At this point I'm rather stuck. I can't seem to identify the root of the problem through my traditional methods. Any help would be very welcome. I hope that I'm not posting something that's already been fixed, I'm not entirely sure how to tag this issue since I have no clue whats causing it. So if this is a duplicate, then I apologize.

I'm aware of the RailCraft gzip error, I've been getting that for a very long time, and hadn't bothered to fix it (probably a bad idea, I know). It looks like it might be a problem with Java itself, but I can't tell for sure.

Having same issue. I think my machine crashed, but I could not get server back up. So, I backed up the server dir, and unzipped the Tekkit back over it, and came to this same exact spot. All my java is good etc.. Sigh, my son is bummed..

Hay everyone.

I too had this happen to me, but i sort of found a loophole on saving your game data.

Open your "server" properties file and change Level-name= to a different world name, than save and run. Once all the files are created, open the main files for both worlds. I replace the new: Data, Players, Region, and Level .dat file with the old ones. Make sure not to copy the old Railcraft.dat and the RedstoneEther files, because I found these to be the corrupted ones.

once its all copied over run the server and try to log in. If your able to load the server, destroy all anchors.

If you weren't able to load it try temporarily removing the Railcraft.dat, log and destroy anchors than reinsert .dat

I cant promise it will work or fix it for long but as far as i'm able to tell my level is back to normal.

Hope this helps :)

Your world is corrupt. Making a new world will fix it, but it's a bit extreme.

Load up the world in MCEdit and let it fix any errors it finds, then start your server
